Hi there! my name is Isoken (Iso) Ogumbor š
I am a BIPOC and neurodivergent psychologist who is dedicated to helping others learn to choose how they live lifeā¦ instead of feeling like life has been chosen for them.
I am a Registered Psychologist (6706) with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), a member of the Psychologists Association of Alberta (PAA), and an NIHB-approved provider.
My approach is founded on two basic beliefs:
>* 1. people want to be their best selves; they may just need some help finding what their ābest selfā looks like.
* 2. humans are social animals; our brains are built for connection - we need safe relationships to feel like we can heal, grow, and change
šļø Within our therapy sessions,
I operate from a trauma-informed and person-centered approach. I aim to listen non-judgmentally and with care. Most importantly, I believe that people are resilient. My multifaceted and holistic perspective complements my ability to support in the healing of traumatic experiences and facilitate post-traumatic growth.
Essentially, my approach within sessions is to intentionally strive to provide a warm presence - to listen with care, to be open to diverse opinions and most importantly, to remember that resilience will amount from not what I do, but ultimately how I am.
I aim to offer culturally sensitive treatment, which includes the acknowledgment and encouragement of people to explore the way their thoughts, feelings, and surroundings impact the choices they make and actions they take.
Education & Training š©š¾āš
I completed my Master of Counselling (Applied Psychology) degree from the University of Lethbridge in 2019 and received the School of Graduate Studies Silver Medal of Merit Award for the Master of Counselling program.
Iāve amassed over 9 years of experience within the mental health field providing evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for individuals, groups, and families.
Throughout my career, I have been given the opportunity to take a deep dive into the intertwined phenomena commonly known as complex and/or developmental trauma.
>As a result, I have developed an understanding of the many factors that collide to keep people healthy - or block their ability to heal.
Iāve worked for non-profit organizations, school-based services, and Alberta Health Services Community Based Services. In addition, I have experience facilitating both group and individual therapy sessions and psychoeducational workshops.
Iāve completed further training in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Strengths Based Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotion-Focused (Individual) Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Thera-play (Level One Foundational), Trauma-Focused Expressive Arts Therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Presently, I am completing the requirements to obtain my certification as an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP).
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my furry angels (aka my dogs). When I am not in therapist-mode, you can catch me BINGE watching something completely random (reality tvā¦ true crime documentariesā¦ Disney shows -circa 2010). My go-to forms of self-care are weightlifting and spending time perfecting my skills as a dissectologist š.
